Department Summary

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Political Science beginning Fall 2023. This is a full-time, tenure-track position. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and service, and to assist in the continued development of undergraduate and graduate programs in political science. UNT-Dallas offers faculty the unique opportunity to help shape the character of a 21stt century, learner-focused, urban comprehensive university.

Position Summary

RESPONSIBILITIES: Expectations for tenure-track faculty at UNT-Dallas include excellent teaching, research, and service, resulting in contributions equivalent to a four-course load each semester. This workload expectation can be fulfilled through a combination of teaching, high-quality research and scholarship, service, and program development. Faculty are expected to participate in such service activities as curriculum development, face-to-face and online course development, program assessment, program communication, coordination of service learning, substantial  participation on university, school and faculty government committees and student recruitment. The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in a full range of undergraduate courses, but we are primarily looking for a teacher and researcher who can strengthen the degree-required concentration in International Relations and Comparative Government. Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A PhD degree in political science, government or closely-related field.
  • Experience or potential for teaching a range of undergraduate courses, specifically in the areas of international relations and/or comparative government.
  • Experience or potential for teaching and developing face-to-face and online courses.
  • Evidence or potential for excellence in teaching.
  • Evidence or potential for excellence in scholarship.
  • Evidence or potential for leadership in academic program development in the international relations and comparative government fields.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Area expertise in international relations and/or comparative government.
  • Experience with accreditation, assessment or recruitment.
  • Experience working with a culturally-diverse population.
  • Professional, government or research experience in international relations or foreign service.
  • Some expertise in Latin American politics, foreign relations, or domestic Latinx politics is of interest to the political science program, but is not as valuable as a general knowledge of international relations, comparative politics and foreign policy.
