We are looking for a Senior Continuous Improvement (CI) Engineer who will have the opportunity to implement key fundamentals of Lean Six Sigma manufacturing to assess, audit and evaluate current processes within assigned factories and facilities to identify potential gaps and/or waste, and implement effective change to eliminate waste, maximize value, reduce variation, etc. This is achieved through close partnerships with all internal teams related to production, business processes and/or services for Marvin’s facilities and factories.

Are you:

A CHANGE AGENT WITH EXCEPTIONAL COMMUNICATION. You approach each project and your internal customers with the understanding that change requires trust and partnership. You communicate in a clear, respectful, and persuasive way to lead to buy-in and positive outcomes with your CI initiatives.

AN ANALYTICAL PROBLEM SOLVER. Although you can jump into problem solving mode quickly because you are never satisfied with the status quo, you seek to understand first before suggesting a solution. You seek to gather data and information to prioritize issues and how to best approach them.

A COLLABORATIVE LEAN SIX SIGMA PRACTITIONER. As a seasoned practitioner in leading Lean Manufacturing CI initiatives, you understand what it takes to successfully implement change- you’ve learned from every project you’ve been on. You enjoy helping your internal customers see the potential in their work and how to improve on processes and procedures already set in place.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

Within the first 30 days:

  • Joins plant tours to learn a facility’s machinery, production, etc. and partners with individuals at the plant to get to know them, and better understand their challenges to be a good partner.
  • Partners with their manager to learn expected business metrics ie, gross margin, capacity, productivity, schedule, and delivery goals.
  • Contributes to inflight VSTs at a facility, analyzing and optimizing each process, and contributes to project status updates.

2 – 3 months and ongoing:

  • Is owning CI projects within a VST; creating and managing a schedule, measuring issues and progress, managing and allocating resources, while collaborating across multiple teams.
  • For projects assigned, determines where data may not exist yet, and determines how to develop and mine data from different systems to create an actionable plan to improve processes and procedures.

6 – 9 months and ongoing:

  • Is managing 5-15 events at any given time, displaying strong communication, consistent precision and flexibility as different projects and tasks come up.
  • Proactively partners with the Quality team to ensure products are being built right the first time and develops a plan to reduce waste of making a bad product.
  • Is auditing established processes and procedures, and proactively addresses ways to make improvements by reaching gross margin goals (ie, production quantity).
  • months and ongoing:
  • Leads 1-3 CI projects at a time (that have multiple events within each), and has contributed to the achievement of larger Marvin strategic goals including % improvement of gross margin, certain production quantity or throughput goals, etc.
  • Is receiving positive feedback from employees in different factories and is getting requests from locations to partner with them on additional lean manufacturing projects.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, chemical, industrial, manufacturing engineering required, MBA in engineering or related field a plus
  • 3+ years’ experience in a CI Engineer role leading lean initiatives through hands-on implementation of lean Six Sigma Methods required; experience within the manufacturing industry required
  • Proven and highly skilled working experience with various office equipment, computers and various programs including MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel required
  • Black Belt or related Lean Six Sigma training highly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data and leading cross-functional teams with the ability to connect initiatives to business metrics and determine a path forward (ie, value stream mapping, identifying waste, developing labor playbooks, etc.) required
  • Proven experience presenting findings and recommendations to a lean steering committee/senior leadership and public speaking required
  • Proven ability to manage multiple competing projects and timelines required
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills by practicing active listening & flexibility across all interactions required
  • Experience in a hard goods semi-automated manufacturing industry environment managing a variety of different products with a low volume in a supervisor or related role highly preferred
  • Bilingual a plus
