Summary


CHS
has an exciting opportunity in our Propane group. We are looking for a Rail Logistics Analyst to manage rail logistics and rail rates for Propane, optimizing fleet performance and rail rates in the most cost effective and efficient manner. You must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, strong analytical skills and able to work with large data sets. Excellent prioritization of work and time management abilities with the ability to anticipate issues and take proactive steps to mitigate is essential. This role is eligible for hybrid work, requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office.


Responsibilities

  • Accomplish timely, accurate and professional support of all rail logistical needs to Propane and its customers, both internal and external.
  • Coordinate empty and loaded railcar logistics and manage repositioning of private car fleet.
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders efficient and economical options for execution via rail.
  • Resolve problems regarding the movement of railcars as well as with various customer issues related to their supply chain.
  • Communicate with railroads to expedite shipments that hold priority for CHS.
  • Create and maintain data and logistics reports related to railcar movements.
  • Provide reports, analysis and recommendations for efficient and economic utilization of equipment.
  • Responsibilities will also include developing, reporting, and communicating key rail performance metrics for Propane.
  • Conduct logistical studies, including car cost/benefit analysis.
  • Research and recommend rail routing options to support customer opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of internal and external professional relationships to maximize value to CHS.
  • Establish and meet all shipping regulations for shipping hazardous materials.
  • Ensure CHS’s exposure is limited when transporting hazardous materials.
  • Provide professional analysis of rail rate structures and spreads and/or rates for alternative modes of transportation to ensure and maximize market competitiveness.
  • Source competitive freight rates and provide recommendations to internal customers so CHS utilizes the lowest cost of transportation possible while meeting the market needs.
  • Assist with rate negotiation for confidential rail contracts and new business/marketing opportunities.
  • Monitor and maintain rail rates and databases with current and accurate information.
  • Effectively and timely communicate changes and resulting impacts to CHS.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to systems and processes.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.


Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma (or equivalent)
  • 2+ years of experience in Logistics, Supply Chain and/or Procurement to include:

    • Knowledge of transportation logistics and rates
    • Ability to read and interpret contracts and tariff authorities


Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Systems Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, or related field
  • Experience in Transportation and/or Distribution
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Understanding of standard shipping practices, trucking, rail and container
  • Experience working with logistics tools


Physical Requirements
