Job Description
Job Title: Senior AccountantReports To: President and FounderExempt/Nonexempt: Exempt
VISION: Whittle Strategic Accounting envisions a community of businesses and non-profit organizations who are successful in strategic planning, accountability, and sustainability.
MISSION: Whittle Strategic Accounting exists to provide businesses and non-profit organizations with strategic services that move clients towards a culture of strategic decisions, accountability, and sustainability.
SUMMARY: The Senior Accountant provides strategic accounting services to both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors and acts as an outsourced Senior Accountant and Controller to our clients.Services provided may include completion of monthly closes, monthly financial statement preparation, review of monthly closes prepared by others, preparation of annual audit workpapers, variance analysis and budgeting for our clients.Additionally, the Senior Accountant cultivates networking relationships within the community and aids in the professional development of staff who are less senior.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Prepare and/or review monthly closes of financials including accruals and prepaids.2. Prepare internal client financial statements and assist clients with proper recording of various accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP.3. Manage expectations, duties and deadlines for multiple clients by developing and nurturing relationships.4. Prepare short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting and profitability analysis; monitor cash flow for clients.
5. Provide strategic services to clients including suggestions for improved efficiencies, streamlined processes, and other areas of management.
6. Ensure that firm processes and controls are followed and provide suggestions for areas that could improve efficiencies or client satisfaction.
7. Deliver timely and constructive feedback to less senior team members to elevate their knowledge and understanding of the firm’s processes, GAAP, and client service standards.
8. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS as described below:
- Bachelor’s in Accounting or other accounting education/experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and corporate finance. Public and private accounting experience preferred. Prior outsourced accounting experience a plus.
- Experience in a leadership role within the accounting function with the ability to set clear goals and objectives as well as the ability to delegate and elevate less senior members of the team.
- Accounting work in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors highly encouraged.
- Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and QuickBooks Online.
- Bill.com experience a plus.
