GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Accountant works closely with members of management to determine the types and timing of desired information and reports and must deliver a high degree of quality and service in all assigned tasks. The accountant provides training and insight into accounting questions to staff as needed. Performs any accounting function that occurs in the department on an on-going basis with the necessary cross-training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience

. 2 years of experience in accounting/accounts payable, to include exposure to both special analytical projects and traditional accounting activities such as financial reporting or auditing

Minimum Knowledge and Skill Requirements

. Must possess knowledge of accounting principles

. Working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations is required

. Must have intermediate to advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database software

. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing across all levels of management is required

. Must have good judgment and be detail-oriented. Should be a self-starter, able to manage deadlines, and be able to work unsupervised

. Must have ability to make sound decisions and possess strong problem-solving. Must possess the ability to develop, organize and complete tasks and projects using software programs and to incorporate technology to streamline routine processes

. Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a changing workload is required

. Must possess the ability to perform accounting functions using independent judgment

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT:

Requires the employee to sit and stand a majority of the time. Infrequent lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required. Some travel may be necessary in Pima, Pinal and Maricopa Counties.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must comply with all aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES AND TASKS:

1. Maintains and controls subsidiary ledgers for all assigned general ledger accounts.

2. Provides management with status of financial risks and opportunities through monitoring, analyzing, and reporting trends and results of projects.

3. Assists in the annual budgeting process as well as selected analytical exercises, including the preparation of presentations that management will deliver to the Board of Directors.

4. Produces financial reporting, including daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

5. Assists in internal control reviews, NCUA examination, and any external audits.

6. Organizes and store specific accounting records in accordance with the records preservation regulations.

7. Reviews and test for reasonableness outside third party reports, ie investment reports, student loan reports, FICS reports.

8. Supports financial statements with analysis.

9. Gains comprehensive knowledge of analytical and database software applications utilized by the credit union.

10. Makes journal entries, does account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, makes deposits, does 945 reporting and cash liquidity reporting. Provides back-up for other positions in Finance.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary range is $55,011.12-$72,202.09. Job Grade, EX 12. Final salary is dependent on candidate’s experience and qualifications.
