Purpose
To provide data collection, analysis and support for College of Liberal Arts generally, and particularly for Language and Area Studies Center grant development and reporting.
This is a temporary position with a duration of approximately two years from date of hire, renewable based upon availability of funding and business need.
Responsibilities
Data Collection and Analysis
- Analyze data using statistical software and techniques, focusing primarily on descriptive statistics. Collect, merge, clean, document, and otherwise prepare data from multiple disparate sources to generate reports/analyses.
- Perform data collection and analysis on student and faculty population, achievement, and diversity. Provide analyses as needed of progress toward goals and targeted outcomes.
- Compile and analyze data using analytical and statistical methods.
- Responsible for generating, gathering and analyzing data from university and other data systems and sources.
- Assist in responding to data requests/open records requests received by the Dean’s office.
Data Collection Strategy
- Determine data requirements, data sources and data collection methods.
- Design data collection strategy from a general problem statement or objectives.
- Identify, explore, and document legacy and new sources for data.
- Research best practice and alternative solutions to our current business office applications.
Reporting
- Prepare text and visual summaries to facilitate interpretation of data.
- Plan, develop and coordinate annual statistical summary reports.
- Provide data analysis and prepare reports for college leadership decision-making, presentations, meetings and training sessions.
Language and Area Studies Data Support
- Support Title VI centers and other units/programs within the college as designated by the Dean and Advisor to the Dean on Language and Area Studies, through data collection, analysis, and strategy.
- Provide data for Title VI and related grant applications and reports.
Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in quantitative social science or related field or experience. Proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Particularly MS Excel). Experience and proficiency with other statistical or data processing software (such as STATA, SPSS, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey information in person, and over the phone. Exhibit patience, attentiveness, knowledge, flexibility, trustworthiness, positivity, tenacity, guidance, and willingness to collaborate. Appreciation of confidentiality requirements surrounding use sensitive data.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in quantitative social science or related field. Demonstrated experience and success in retrieving, organizing and using data in a university setting. Experience working at UT Austin with thorough knowledge of university data systems. Ability and willingness to learn new systems and data sources as needed.Ability to work with UT Mainframe (DEFINE) and other financial accounting systems, including Workday. Experience working with FileMaker Pro, Cognos, and Budget Update Document (BUD).Experience transferring data from UT Systems to desktop applications and data visualization applications.
Salary Range
$60,000 + depending on qualifications
