Position:
The Department of Special Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in special education with expertise in K-12th grade youth.
Position Description:
We seek candidates at the assistant/associate/full professor rank with expertise in in one or more of the following areas: (a) teaching and learning academic content, (b) culturally responsive practice, or (c) behavior and mental health support. This dynamic faculty member will contribute to a rich tradition of conducting influential research; securing external grant funding; teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses; mentoring and advising graduate students; and providing university, state, and professional service. Successful candidates must have a strong interest in and commitment to both research and teacher education.
Required Qualifications
- A doctorate in special education or a related field (by date of hire) with expertise in one or more of the following areas: (a) teaching and learning academic content, (b) culturally responsive practice, or (c) behavior and mental health support.
- Demonstrated expertise in youth with disabilities (K-12th grade).
- For hire at assistant level, the potential for a line of research with a strong and sustained record of scholarship and the potential for external funding. For hire at the associate/full level, an established line of research with a strong and sustained record of scholarship and external funding.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and evidence of effective collaboration.
- A minimum of two years successful experience as a special education professional with K-12th grade youth with disabilities.
- Evidence of successful university teaching (face-to-face or online).
- Experience addressing and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, teaching, service, and/or public engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of two years of experience teaching special education at a K-12th grade level.
- Experience mentoring graduate students.
- Evidence of service to the university, field, or profession through professional organizations, editorial activities, and university service.
- Evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration through research, teaching, and service and/or public engagement.
Salary and Starting Date: Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience. The starting date is August 16, 2024.
