Who is Universal Pediatrics?

Universal Pediatrics is Iowa and South Dakota’s largest provider of private, one-on-one, in-home health care services focusing on pediatric and young adult clients. With over 30 successful years in business, we are proven as the premier choice for pediatric home health care.

Our nurses work in our clients’ home providing skilled medical care. Nursing schedules are based on the client and the family needs. No two clients are alike – we have days, evenings, and even some night shifts depending on your preference. Examples of some of our cares include gastrostomy tubes, jejunostomy tubes, nasogastric tubes, PICCs, PORTs, tracheostomies, seizure disorders, etc. Our kids are kind of those rare kids that would not necessarily be able to stay living at home without medical support services in place.

We case specific train, which means all the cares you would need to complete for your client(s), are specifically taught to you using hands on training by a supervising RN. Our services are unique in the sense that we help to capture all aspects of the client’s care needs within our scope. We help to follow through with therapy orders and exercises for PT/OT/ST. We work on feeding therapies, we complete the respiratory treatments if applicable, we can attend school and help them with developmental needs, we go too appointments with them if needed and help complete all other physician orders. This helps to encompass a full circle care and truly know and building a relationship with your client(s)!

What would you be doing?

As a home health Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, you get to dive into the fun of being a kid while providing quality care. We support kids to integrate themselves, as best they can, into school, family, extracurricular activities, and the community while promoting and maintaining their health and safety. You would also support families to learn, provide, and succeed in creating balance for their medically complex kiddo with consistency, skill, and passion.

In this role, some days you will have a lot of fun! There will be games, laughing, learning, and adapting. Some days may challenge your abilities to critically think and problem solve as a nurse. At the end of each day, you will feel reward and pride in the services and support you provide that allow clients and families to live a joyful life.

Every client’s needs are different, but key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Complete assessments, medication administration, and provide therapies, treatments, and interventions as scheduled in accordance with the plan of care and physician’s orders.
Partner with all members of the interdisciplinary team including the family, ensuring a constant flow of communication regarding the client’s cares, changes in condition, developmental goals, etc.
Provide support and education to clients and families to help them be successful.
Build rapport and trust with clients, families or other caregivers, the office team, and peers to facilitate effective communication and build relationships.
Complete charting timely through our electronic medical record system.
Keep up to date with the client’s plan of care, changes in conditions, physician’s orders, family, or caregiver requests, etc.
Advocate for the client and family to promote and support growth and development.

What’s required?

Active Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse licensure, without restrictions
Valid driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance coverage
CPR certification required but may be obtained after hire
COVID-19 vaccine compliance
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds

What we are looking for:

Models Universal Pediatrics’ values: Integrity, Compassion, Adaptability, Responsibility and Excellence
Manages multiple tasks and process information from multiple different sources
Works and communicates professionally with clients, families and caregivers, physicians, peers, supervisors, and office team members
Culturally sensitive; possess the ability to recognize individual differences to manage relationships and interactions with others
Maintain confidentiality

Universal Pediatrics is an equal employment opportunity employer.

As a healthcare entity, Universal Pediatrics adheres to CMS, CDC, OSHA, and state and local requirements regarding COVID safety. In accordance with CMS regulation, all employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or be approved for an exemption, as a condition of employment. Unvaccinated staff will be required to wear appropriate PPE in compliance with regulations.
