As a Medical Coder, you will provide coding and coding auditing services directly to providers. You’ll play a key part in healing the health system by making sure our high standards for documentation processes are being met. Delivering quality care starts with ensuring our processes and documentation standards are being met and kept at the highest level possible. This means working behind the scenes ensuring a member-centric approach to care. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of clinical coding in various departments (Inpatient/Outpatient/Acute/Pro-Fee), validating the information in the databases for outcome management and specialty registries, across the entire integrated healthcare system. The purpose of this position is to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information records for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assigns accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines for outpatient hospital accounts
  • Monitors assigned work queues to ensure all records are charged/coded in a timely matter
  • Generates coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation as needed
  • Stays abreast of all changes in coding conventions and coding updates
  • Ability to manage significant workload, and to work efficiently under pressure meeting established deadlines with minimal supervision

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P CPC, OR CPC-H) to be maintained annually
  • 1+ year of Radiation Oncology Coding experience or has ROCC certification
  • Computer proficiency in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Word (create, copy, edit, send, and save documents) and Microsoft Excel (ability to create, open, edit and save)
  • Ability to identify and code diagnosis codes according to CMS and ICD-10 standards
  • Ability to work any 8-hour shift between 5:00am – 6:00pm

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of professional or outpatient coding experience
  • 1+ year of Medical Oncology & Infusions experience
  • Ambulatory surgery and observation experience
  • Experience with various encoder systems (eCAC,3M, EPIC, Meditech)
  • Intermediate level of experience with Microsoft Excel (create, data entry, save)
