The Student Pathways Division of the Agency of Education (AOE) is seeking an enthusiastic and mission-driven individual to be the Health & Physical Education Specialist. The Education Programs Coordinator will provide statewide leadership, oversight, and support to Vermont supervisory unions and districts (SUs/SDs), schools, educators, and communities to support comprehensive, equitable, and inclusive health and physical education in Vermont consistent with Act 77 (Flexible Pathways Initiative), the Vermont Education Quality Standards, and Act 173 of 2018. Experience working with learning standards and developing curriculum, project and grant management, and the ability to develop networks of education stakeholders are important qualities of the ideal candidate. Additionally, a passion for learning and a commitment to continuous improvement in service to supporting and sustaining an inclusive public education system is essential.
The Health & Physical Education Specialist position sits on the Proficiency-Based Learning (PBL) Team in the Student Pathways Division. The PBL team works in partnership with other divisional and agency teams to support the implementation of content standards, proficiency-based education, local comprehensive assessment systems, and other education requirements and regulations to ensure that educational systems are equitable, culturally-sustaining, and student-centered. This position will provide administrative and specialized program leadership for comprehensive health education (including sexual health education) and physical education statewide. Additionally, the Health & Physical Education Specialist is responsible for supporting state-level efforts related to proficiency-based graduation requirements, curriculum, assessment, and policy implementation such as the model Local Wellness Policy that is currently being revised under Act 66 of 2021. A successful candidate may also take on supervision duties.

Environmental Factors
Work is generally performed in a standard office setting, but significant travel may be anticipated for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be required. There may be considerable interaction with a variety of publics and strong differences of opinion may be encountered.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, public administration, or related field AND five (5) years or more at a professional level education, program development, or leadership role in a public or private educational institution.
OR
Three (3) years or more as an Education Programs Coordinator I with the State of Vermont.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
