JOB SUMMARY
The Product Architecture Team in the New Product Development organization at S&C is responsible for “powering” technical architecture for the next generation of S&C products. Product Architects report to the Director of Product Architecture, and work in a department that is chartered to provide overall solution architecture and technical leadership to help drive major projects at S&C. In the Product Architect role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership to the project ensuring the overall integrity of systems and development processes, in addition to the overarching objective of completing the project at or below cost, with high quality, and on time.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collaborate with Product Management, Product Engineering, Production Operations and Test teams on product and solutions roadmaps, engineering estimations, and tactical project execution
- Lead cross-functional team of Sub-system architects and engineers (power hardware, electronic, software development & test) to deliver reliable, mission critical solutions and products
- Decompose marketing requirements into authored product level requirements and architectural artifacts
- Drive or participate in unique customer specific solutions
- Design of highly reliable mechanical and electromechanical subsystems to operate medium and high voltage circuit interrupters
- Creation of conceptual and prototype mechanical systems using 3D CAD
- Design, build, and test prototypes and test vehicles
- Presentation of significant findings, orally and in writing, to senior management and engineers throughout the company
- Ability to mentor other engineers in the company, where the successful candidate has particular expertise or relevant experience.
- Definition of device and system test requirements as well as preparation of test samples and travel to outside labs, customer and supplier facilities
- Participate in or lead DFMEA events, and structural linear or nonlinear and dynamics analysis using FEA tools
- Participate in and lead the Front End of the development process of a project through implementation of S&C Product Development processes and monitoring adherence through various milestones gates
- Collaborate and lead continuous improvement efforts to ensure continuous quality and customer satisfaction improvement.
To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or demonstrated equivalent, an MS or higher degree preferred
- Ten or more years as a product or system level architect with highly reliable mechanical and electromechanical subsystems
- Have a strong and proven leadership ability
- Detail-oriented and logical thinker with strong analytical skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interface with internal and external customers, to define project scope and plans and work in a team
- Demonstrated ability to use analysis tools such as Matlab, MathCad, ANSYS etc.
- Industrial design knowledge (aesthetics, ergonomics and product usability)
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and finishes
- Experience in industrial or automotive product development is preferred, or equivalent experience in medium/high volume manufacture of highly-reliable mechanical systems.
- Experience with manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, GD&T, FEA, and FMEA
- Experience designing and testing electromagnetic assemblies, power harvesting assemblies, or high voltage assemblies
- Working knowledge of current transformers, voltage transformers, and power electronic devices
- Desire to work hands-on in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Up to 20% potential travel per year
Relevant Experience Required: This is an experienced position. Looking for a candidate willing to be a hands-on architect of a team of product engineers working on first-of-a-kind products. Must have a Laser focus on the timeliness of the product release while maintaining a robust and reliable quality focused development process. Be willing to partner with other engineering teams to create innovative ways to automate and expand our development process to ultimately drive improved product quality and speedier delivery.
