Job & Summary
The Historic Trades Interpreter brings the 19th Century Canal Era to life for the guest at Roscoe Village while demonstrating the trade of blacksmithing. This crafter/interpreter will learn the knowledge that is accurate to the Canal Era Period. The Historic Interpreter is a seasonal job. The season runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Roscoe Village is open 7 days a week all year round. This will require additional scheduling for group tours, school tours, Home School Days, Apple Butter Stirrin’, and Christmas tour.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpreters are required to gain the knowledge of the Canal Era period. This will provide opportunities to learn the trades that are demonstrated in the Living History Building.
- The interpreters are required to give guest information about the village in a professional manner.
- Have the ability to maintain a clean work area.
- The blacksmith will produce standard Roscoe Village iron items for retail purposes.
- The blacksmith may be called upon to create items for special orders.
- The blacksmith will work with the Education Department Manager in ordering raw materials and conducting area inventories.
