The Opportunity

As Network Lead, you will be a member of the Project Management RIS Chapter Leadership Team (PMC LT). You will be a key interface in translating client and business needs, as well as strategy on several levels, into clear priorities for the Function. As such, you will be responsible for a network aligned with a Customer Area and will work closely with Project Managers in the Network including the Functional Partners who are linked to Lifecycle Teams (LCTs). Furthermore, you will interact closely with other Chapters within PPM to determine how to deliver comprehensive and successful solutions to business challenges.

This position offers a unique perspective with exposure to a broad range of topics, multiple functions and a breadth of matrix leadership opportunities. This is a highly visible position that requires executive presence, exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, collaboration and partnering, analytic detail and rigor, superlative organizational and communication skills while living the Roche Operating Principles.

Responsibilities

Drive business results and client value

  • Be accountable for the delivery of projects and solutions within your Network towards the Customer Area and Business Area priorities.
  • Define your Network’s key objectives and ensure alignment thereof with the organization’s business strategy.
  • Own critical activities such as snapshot preparation activities, capacity reviews (QCRs, SCRs, fQCRs) in your Network and standardize them in partnership with other NLs across all CAs.
  • Identify the portfolio & project needs (and issues) to assess and plan for the needed response, including driving the formation of teams/squads to address it with urgency and timeliness.
  • Drive/participate in special or strategic projects, as needed.

Advance the work of the Network, making tradeoffs and breaking silos

  • Coordinate with Functional Partners to anticipate and aggregate needs and priorities, to better understand upcoming resource demands on the Network.
  • Partner with Sub-Chapter Leads to assign and allocate resources, ensuring a balance between business needs, capabilities, and availability. Align important timelines across Finance, Portfolio Management and Project Management.
  • Function as an integrator, breaking down silos and improving working effectiveness across the organization as needed; in particular through collaboration with other Network Leads, Analytics & Insights, Portfolio Management, partners and stakeholders. Contribute to the development and implementation of focus area outcomes or other strategic initiatives and drive operational excellence (e.g., planning guidelines etc.).

Enable the organization’s Optimized Delivery

  • Act as PPM business partner for a Customer Area, LCTs & Functions and lead an end-to-end project management network with a focus on Project Management for Product Development, Resource Management and Product Care.
  • Oversee and drive operational portfolio topics within the Network.
  • Complements strategic portfolio topics with operational expertise while forming a strong connection to Portfolio Management with the aim to optimize the performance, delivery, and impact.
  • Conduct project health reviews/overview as part of portfolio health.
  • Coach other members of the project/product team as well as peers, develop new skills and provide ongoing, constructive feedback on performance and progress toward goals and expectations.

Who You Are

  • Scientific/engineering background, business acumen, and experience in IVD/diagnostics product development desired.
  • Deep understanding of the diagnostics industry, lifecycle & project management experience with focus on product development /product care.
  • Experience in companion diagnostics development, analytical and clinical validations and regulatory submissions or instrument development & program management is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in the diagnostics industry or a related life science field in product development/project management related functions.
  • Demonstrated experience as a matrix leader, preferred.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with an enterprise mindset.
  • 5%-15% travel involved.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written), German is a plus.

Experience and Capabilities

  • Ability to drive/manage complex projects/programs (ideally with experience in a healthcare-related environment), including cross-functional planning, development of coordinated plans, supervising and driving execution.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking with the ability to synthesize information to identify relevant insights that will advise improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to structure, pragmatically scope, and solve abstract and complex problems as well as clearly articulate key analytical findings to a variety of audiences incl. managing/documenting scope changes across the project lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of Planisware, MS-Office, G-Suite, and know-how of project management tools such as Trello, Miro, Smartsheet, etc., while proficient in one or more project management methodologies including waterfall, Agile, SAFe, hybrid.
  • Emotional intelligence skills including influencing without authority and navigating within a matrix environment, as well as interface effectively with all levels, including senior management.
  • High self-confidence, self-motivation, strong critical and analytical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize work and to lead with a creative mindset with a very high self-awareness.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Pleasanton, California is $108,400 – $201,400. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
