Job Title: Assistant Plant Manager, Proximity Malt, Laurel, Delaware

Reports to: Regional Manager- Mid-Atlantic

Job Summary: The Assistant Manager is a maltster overseeing the malting process from receipt of grain, steeping, germination, kilning, roasting, to packaging and shipping, that the quality of the finished malt is consistent and in conformity with customers’ needs and expectations.

Job Scope: The Assistant Manager will report to the Regional Manager and assist in leading the day-to-day activities ensuring smooth operation of the malt plant. This individual must have a “Safety First” mentality and be a hands-on self-starter. Must have a strong background of leadership in production and maintenance within a food manufacturing setting. The Assistant Manager will be flexible and fill in where needed to ensure a successful and sustainable operations.

Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and reinforce a “Safety First – High Quality – Efficient Production” and team-oriented culture while ensuring compliance with workplace safety and environmental programs
  • The Assistant Manager is the Safety Leader of the site and must ensure all safety programs are in place, being followed, documented, and filed according to OSHA and company standards
  • Lead a team of supervisors/coordinators, operators and maintenance technicians
  • Further develop plant operating bast practice procedures and ensure compliance
  • Develop and implement training programs
  • Oversee the development and implementation of quality control programs and SOP’s
  • Manage and implement plant maintenance programs
  • Perform audits of Safety program (e.g. lock out tag out, confined space)
  • Ensure consistent process reliability through inspection of equipment and processes, troubleshooting and correcting equipment and production issues
  • Manage and execute all annual reviews, participate in merit increase evaluations, coach and discipline direct and indirect reports according to company policies
  • Cross-train operators and technicians for optimal production flexibility and redundancy
  • Improve processes and productivity through Key Process Indicators (KPIs) monitoring and reporting
  • Coordinate staff schedules
  • Operate a fork truck or lift, as needed
  • Operate personal and process computers for extended lengths of time
  • Physical requirements include, but are not limited to: frequent movement throughout facility, positioning oneself in manners to move under, around, and through tight places, reaching, ascending/descending stairs/ladders, moving up to 55 pounds both vertically and from place to place, working in extremes of temperatures (both hot and cold), and entering confined spaces.

Qualifications:

  • High school education or equivalent, post-secondary education preferred
  • Five years’ plus of experience working in a food manufacturing setting with progressive leadership roles
  • Experience with office computing and process automation systems highly desired
  • Experience as a maintenance leader or lead in a manufacturing setting
  • Must be available to work and respond during off-shifts, weekends, holidays, callouts and overtime
  • Ability to read, understand directions, and communicate in English
  • Candidate must, be flexible, results-orientated and lead by example
  • Prior Malting experience a preferred

It is a requirement that the individual filling this position has an aptitude to learn new skills, motivate him/herself and be willing to work in a dynamic environment where fixed routines may not yet be established.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
