Job Description:

You will:

  • Supervise our most important asset – our drivers – ensuring high levels of on-time pickup and delivery service.
  • Create and lead a safety-first culture where all employees are owners of creating a safe place to work.
  • Ensure all drivers are aware of DOT policies, compliant with DOT regulations, and that violations of DOT rules are documented.
  • Partner with the Fleet Safety team on the various tools and systems being leveraged to track and measure our safety performance. Seek opportunities to acknowledge positive and safe driving behaviors, while documenting and correcting unsafe driving behaviors.
  • Collaborate with business partners and leverage both historical data and forecasting tools to maintain a fully staffed department, mitigating overtime.
  • Counsel, consult, communicate, instruct, and monitor direct-reporting employees in acceptable practices and department and Company policies and procedure.
  • Drive key performance indicators for cost savings and profitability.
  • Seek insourcing opportunities to move outsourced transportation lanes to PB Fleet, solving for cost and service.
  • Partner with asset management to ensure current and future equipment needs are being met.
  • Ensure readiness and cleanliness of the Fleet assets, and that all drivers are leveraging available tools, training, and systems to their fullest extent.
  • Work with the transportation procurement department to provide service performance feedback on our vendors.
  • Work directly with our vendors to drive service performance improvements.
  • Full management responsibility: Quarterly and annual performance reviews, corrective actions and performance management, hiring, on-boarding, and termination.
  • Establish and foster a highly collaborative partnership build on trust and a desire to win with the local and regional facility manager teams. Ensure communication flows freely and openly in both directions.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

As a Transportation Manager, you have:

  • 10-15 years experience in asset transportation and fleet operations, warehouse / distribution operations.
  • Broad experience across multiple modes of transportation (truckload, LTL, courier/final mile) in inbound and outbound operations, third party transportation, and e-commerce distribution.
  • Previous fleet management and tracking software system (PeopleNet/Trimble, Samsara, etc.) and Drivecam systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
  • Proven track record of driving high service levels while implementing cost controls without sacrificing safety.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and attend to detail.
  • Experience working with Payroll and attendance systems.
  • People leadership skills – recruit, develop and retain talent.
  • Experience leading supervisor/ driver staff; experience with hiring, training, and motivating teammates and resolving employee relations issues.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, peers, subordinates and superiors across different levels within the organization in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to effectively utilize, train and develop supervisory staff.
  • Strong PC skills including MS Office, Word and Excel.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Transportation or Logistics is preferred.
  • Transportation/Fleet service experience, which includes route delivery procedures, basic security, and operational procedures.
