Full Job Description
Our client, a profitable and mature e-commerce startup company offering modern herbal medicine backed by sound science, is offering an excellent full-time opportunity for an experienced Remote Director of Finance. The management of our client’s Company believes in the high quality of their products and seeks a Director of Finance who can recognize the needs of a public facing D2C brand. This team member will take ownership of setting proper accounting practices, as well as high-level company growth initiatives, auditing, and budgeting. The Director of Finance will also facilitate high-level company initiatives, including reviewing and analyzing the various costs associated with each department, auditing overall profitability and COG, and making recommendations on cost management for each department. The Company is searching for a highly analytical candidate who will proactively provide financial data and recommendations relevant to the Company’s continued growth and success.
The Remote Director of Finance will effectively manage cross-departmental relationships while developing, implementing, and overseeing inventory accounting, quarterly department budgets, controls, and reports for the Company.
Key Responsibilities:
– Conduct a full profit margin analysis and report of all products, as well as an analysis of overall Company profitability
– Remain current with market trends, especially those related to inflation and rising costs of product ingredients to forecast potential future increases
– Evaluate and recommend changes and/or improvements to sale pricing, discount structures, and loyalty program discounts
– Audit and analyze current business practices to suggest and implement effective improvements to systems and controls to manage costs
– Develop budgets for various departments, including but not limited to, advertising, marketing, and Company travel
– Collaborate with Company Principals
o Full analysis of employee compensation packages
o Audit and evaluate contractor relationships, as well as legal, payment processor, etc. and provide suggestions for improvements
o Audit profitability, sales, and overall health of the existing product line and then provide insight into the reduction or expansion of product offerings based on findings
o Participate in marketing meetings when planning new product/vertical launches and share ideas on how to best test the market before moving forward
o Review wholesale and affiliate programs and recommend changes to enhance the Company’s financial relationships
o Make recommendations to expand the lifetime value of customers
– Partner with the Director of Operations
o Analyze inventory movements, forecast purchasing needs, and provide real-time data to reflect an accurate daily inventory status
o Manage multiple independent distribution centers to ensure proper inventory levels and take actions necessary to replenish stock, as needed
o Assess the opportunity to implement additional distribution centers to lower shipping costs and continually contribute to a cost-efficient fulfillment strategy in an evolving market
o Complete timely cost analysis of inventory and all sales, as well as shipping and fulfillment protocols
o With the Director of Operations, represent the organization and collaborate effectively with outside vendors and distributors
o Coordinate with Senior Management to anticipate seasonal product demands
– Collaborate with the Director of Digital Marketing
o Analyze costs associated with the current marketing platform and related add-on costs to determine return on investment
o Review the services of the current web development agency and make recommendations to ensure a sustainable relationship
– Coordinate with the Directing Producer of Content
o Conduct an audit of costs associated with the podcast
o Determine benefits and pitfalls of advertising and offer recommendations
– Liaise with the outside accounting and legal firms
The Ideal Candidate:
– Understands the nature of our highly visible, intuitive, creative and customer driven e-commerce business model.
– Possesses a base level understanding of the power and profitability of D2C marketing, social media marketing, influencer marketing, and affiliate marketing.
– Candidate should be excited by the fast paced, remote environment and embrace communication through modern project management platforms such as Slack, Google Suite, Instagram, and Monday.com
– Understand the power of digital media marketing and how channels such as Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok are used to increase monthly revenue
– Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting
– Minimum 7 years of experience, with a minimum of 4 years in a managerial role
– Candidate must demonstrate exceptional technical competency with Mac OS
– Thoughtful problem-solver possessing a continuous improvement mindset who can contribute recommendations to enhance efficiency and promote accurate reporting
– Ability to manage multiple priorities while facilitating day-to-day operations
– Experience in a fast-paced and evolving, dynamic environment with strong internal controls
– Reliable and detail-oriented, including an analytical background
– Candidate must be able to make recommendations based on large data sets and ever-changing company needs and growth
– Candidate should understand the nature of our intuitive e-commerce business
The Company is offering a starting salary of $115,000 and the following bonuses:

Remote work. In-person work 2-4 times per year. Travel and housing accommodations are paid by the Company

Working hours: Employees are asked to be available by phone or computer from 8-5 Monday-Friday in case a team member needs assistance or information. Employees enjoy a flexible work schedule providing tasks are completed in an appropriate timeframe.
Two weeks paid vacation from start date. Renews each year and cannot be compounded if not used during the previous year.
