The purpose of this role is maintaining the day-to-day billing and accounting functions of the organ procurement organization and support the OPO Finance Manager. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for optimizing our financial transactions and systems, strengthening and growing relationships with our hospitals partners and vendors, as well as interacting financially with donor hospitals in our three-state service area, and transplant centers nationwide.

Function/Duties of Position:
- Responsible for routine financial and billing processes. Works with complex interrelated accounts across multiple organizations (88 hospitals in three states as well as hundreds of transplant programs nationwide).
- Completes payments and controls expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices in a timely manner.
- Monitor discount opportunities by verifying financial contracts and policies to optimize financial transactions.
- Reconciles accounts, trace and investigates transactions to resolve questionable data, and takes corrective actions.
- Assists in streamlining and improving the accounts payable process.
- Charges expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing and allocating funds to the appropriate organ accounts while maintaining compliance with complex CMS organ donation rules/Medicare cost report.
- Responsible for OPO accounting financial and billing functions for the Donation Service Area (DSA) comprised of Oregon, eight counties in western Idaho and four counties in southwest Washington State.
- Strengthens and grows relationships with our hospital partners and vendors. Implements best billing practices with our partner hospitals in our DSA.
- Analyzes accounting documents for accuracy, balances ledgers and journal entries, cash receipts forms, disbursement forms, runs monthly financial reports, and prepare monthly accruals. Tracks procurement cards, reconciles monthly account ledgers, and resolves discrepancies
- Runs data queries and generates reports as requested by OPO administration for analysis. Performs financial analysis of all organs placed for transplant and collaborates with OPO administration to determine Standard Acquisition Costs (SAC) for each organ type, as required by CMS-critical for maintaining compliance with specific OPO financial practices, and assuring the financial sustainability of the organization.
- Assists with the preparation of the departmental annual budget. Assists with developing financial policies and procedures.
- Participates in special projects and administrative support as requested.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of an Associate’s degree in accounting/bookkeeping and two years of accounting technician/bookkeeping experience; OR
- Four years of accounting technician/bookkeeping experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Detail oriented.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Organization, time management, prioritize abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Great customer service
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Medical terminology knowledge desirable.
- Ability to be discreet and maintain the security of patient or customer information.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) financial practices.
- Experience with Oracle Systems.
- Experience with accounting in the healthcare field.
