From 2014-2021, ACS has reduced the number of children in foster care to a historic low of 7,200, and we continue to expand our ability to serve parents in a way that keeps children safe.

In child welfare, ACS contracts with private nonprofit organizations to support and stabilize families at risk of a crisis through preventive services and provides foster care services for children not able to safely remain at home. Each year, the agency’s Division of Child Protection conducts more than 55,000 investigations of suspected child abuse or neglect. In juvenile justice, ACS manages and funds services including detention and placement, intensive community-based alternatives for youth, and support services for families. In early care and education, ACS coordinates and funds programs and vouchers for close to 100,000 children eligible for subsidized care.

The New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is seeking an outstanding candidate to serve as an Operations Associate assigned to directly support the Chief Operating Officer for the ACS Division of Administration. The selected candidate will become an integral member of the Operations Bureau for one of the country’s premier children’s services agencies dedicated to strengthening NYC’s families and their 1.8 million children. The Operations Associate is responsible for providing direct and high level administrative support and analytics, in order to effectively manage projects within the Division of Administration. This includes but is not limited to coordinating project plans for the Division. The Operations Associate will be responsible for coordinating, investigating and resolving non-compliance issues with policies, procedures, and agency protocols.

Specific duties, include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the coordinate of projects and time lines with Divisional unit staff and programs within the community and division.
  • Provides and improves Divisional services by performing liaison functions including

security and safety and improving communication between community

organizations and groups, and the individuals they represent and service.

  • Performs difficult and responsible clerical operations.
  • Assists with compliance reviews, site assessments within the community, training, and policy development.
  • Coordinate and obtain information for personnel actions for the Bureau of Operations.
  • Elicits support and participation in unit programs.
  • May train and supervise subordinate personnel or act as a team leader on special projects.
  • Perform general office duties that include scheduling, scanning, filing and copying.
  • Handling telephone calls, providing information and directing questions to the appropriate units.
  • Provide operational support for units during the absence or shortage of regular staff.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining the calendar, planning and scheduling of meetings and conference calls for the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Lead or participate in other projects assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.

Minimum Qual Requirements

Qualification Requirements

1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or

2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” above.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Be able to handle confidential matters
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
