The City of Las Cruces is the second largest city in New Mexico and is located in Doña Ana County,

Organ Mountains, 10 miles to the east, are dominant in the city’s landscape, along with the Doña Ana Mountains, Robledo Mountains, and

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assist Early Head Start Teacher with Develop
lesson plans and implements Creative Curriculum in the classroom; organize and lead activities to promote physical, mental, and social
development; cooperate with other staff and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioning of the center, which at times may require
changes to meet the needs of the children; maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child, including weekly
observations in each area, examples of the child’s work, and a developmental assessment, completed as per Teaching Strategies GOLD
procedure; use home visits and parent conferences to discuss the child’s individual development and progress, assist the parents in
developing observational skills and solicit parent observations; eat with and assist children in development of social and self-help skills,
and sound nutritional practices; guide children’s acquisition of social skills; attend staff training and meetings, and board and parent
meetings as requested; maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment – assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and
supplies are properly maintained and stored; use the playground as an extension of the classroom; assures that the playground is safe;
assist in conducting the daily health and environment checklist; assist in implementing children’s I.F.S.P. (Individual Family Service Plan)
seeking clarification for any aspects that are not well understood; assist in recruiting and orienting volunteers, providing them with
guidance as needed; complete and submit required forms and records in a timely and accurate fashion, e.g., lesson plans, time sheets, meal
reports etc.; and perform the functions of this position with a strong understanding of the Early Head Start Performance Standards and
Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
Classification Summary
Under general supervision responsible
paraprofessional work an education program. Performs duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students or
parents. Serve in a position for which a teacher or another professional has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of
educational programs and services.
Classification Standard Duties
Plans, organizes, schedules and conducts
classes for youth and/or adults. May supervise indoor and outdoor activities of children; assist in feeding children; assists in planning
and scheduling programs; may make referral reports; may organize and participate in various activities related to the educational program;
attends staff meetings, in-service training sessions and other work related functions as necessary; May direct children in eating, resting
and toileting; may be responsible for the care of infants; assists in keeping areas tidy; maintains discipline and guidance; may assist in
keeping accounting and other records; assists with teacher/parent conferences; may administer pre and post assessments; may deal with
student/parent concerns; may record behavior; may monitor records; performs related work as
assigned.

of directly related experience.
Special Requirements
Candidate must undergo a comprehensive background check,
physical exam, TB screening and maintain a current CPR/First Aid Certification. Must possess the physical capabilities to respond and render
aid to children in the event of an emergency, which may require lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs. Will assume responsibility for
classroom in the event the teacher is not present.
