Description
Major Role:
Consistent with the mission, vision and values of Lifeline of Ohio, provides communication and compliance with all regulating, governing and accepting agencies to facilitate and maximize organ, eye and tissue donation. Works closely with hospital staff, funeral homes, coroners, tissue processors and recovery staff to coordinate the donation process. Ensures all families are educated and aware of the opportunity to pursue tissue donation.
Job Responsibilities:
Referral Initiation:
1. Obtains and enters patient medical and social information provided by partners
2. Assures pertinent referral/case information is communicated to appropriate internal and external stakeholders
3. Communicates with external partners and provides necessary follow-up
4. Identifies initial suitability for tissue donors
5. Assesses appropriate state donor registry for registry status or makes contact with appropriate organ procurement organization for designation.
6. Assists organ recovery team with initial call in organ potential cases (import and heart-beating referrals)
7. Initiates birth tissue referrals for potential placenta donation
Evaluation:
1. Documents and evaluates relevant suitability criteria for all potential tissue donors
2. Understands and applies all internal/ external policies, procedures and standards relevant to donor suitability
3. Builds positive, productive and professional rapport with tissue processor staff
Authorization:
1. Consults with internal and external partners in the coordination and authorization and UDRAI process for potential donors
2. Works with authorizing agent to identify, discuss donation potential
3. Provides core elements during authorization with donor families
4. Supports next-of-kin with follow-up as needed
5. Compiles screening questionnaire per governing agency guidelines
6. Contacts tissue processors for review and acceptance of donor
7. Communicates authorization information to both internal and external stakeholders
8. Documents required information in charting database
9. Works with Quality and Regulatory Affairs to ensure documentation standards are met and any deviations from policy or protocol are documented
10. Completes consent and screening questionnaire for birth tissue referrals

Requirements
Education and Experience:
– Prefer certification in healthcare related field or secondary degree in education, medical or health with experience
working in a call center environment or a relevant combination of education and experience.
– Basic Referral Intake experience preferred.
