Manager Technical Accounting
POSITION:
Our Biosciences Client is currently seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to be responsible for the execution of cost accounting functions, reporting of actual results to management, and assisting in the fiscal planning and forecasting of consolidated COGS accounts. The position will support the financial planning process in the assigned COGS areas and will have a role in accounting transaction processing to ensuring all transactions are properly recorded and approved. This role works closely with business partners: regular costs reviews and savings targets, planning in close cooperation with business partners, provide insights and proactively identifies costs savings improvements.
The successful candidate will have experience in a growing finance organization within the bio-pharmaceutical industry. S/he will possess strong leadership and communication skills.
This position will report to the Corporate Controller and be in the Medford, MA office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Maintain effective controls in the inventory/COGS process for all locations to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Rule 404 and GAAP.
- Ensure the delivery of accurate and timely results for consolidation and deliver monthly COGS reporting to include a thorough understanding and explanations of all variance items.
- As part of month end cost accounting close process, support the review of perpetual inventory records and reconciliations, primarily in the areas of inventory and accruals.
- Ensure proper accounting methodology and accuracy of all balance sheet reserve accounts and non-standard transactions are recorded accurately.
- Manage semi-annual/quarterly physical inventory counts at offsite warehouses and reconcile locations within the area of responsibility to ensure inventory accuracy for finished goods and raw materials.
- Support the planning and forecast process for COGS areas of responsibility, ensure a high level of accuracy in all COGS and non – COGS elements on the P&L.
- Regularly execute standard costing runs in ERP system to ensure all components are standardized timely in accordance with accounting procedures and policies.
- Assist with the audit process as relate to internal control compliance activities as well as the quarterly review and year-end audit cycles.
- Ad-hoc analysis and projects as needed.
IDEAL PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent work experience.
- Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.
- 3+ years of total professional accounting experience with background in a manufacturing environment, preferably Pharma/Biotech, with emphasis in cost accounting, inventory control and general ledger accounting.
- Public company experience with experience of operating under Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance environment preferred.
- Experienced in business partnering and collaboration activities with Operations in developing accurate forecast assumptions for utilization in planning and forecasting systems like Adaptive Insights or equivalent.
- Prior experience working in an analytical role.
- Experience with accounting tools such as Blackline and ERP systems such as MS Dynamics, NetSuite, or SAP preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office program.
