SUMMARY: The Accounting Clerk is an integral part of the Finance Department. This position will perform tasks assigned to a specific area as described below. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL JOB POSITIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- The ability to adhere to a work schedule and regularly attend work to meet client and company production requirements.
- The ability to work in a high paced office, call center environment.
- The ability to work on a computer and multi-task (such as talk and type)
- The ability to interact in a professional manner with coworkers, clients and customers.
- The ability to focus on work and consistently perform tasks in compliance with Gilsbar and client policies and procedures.
- The ability to meet assigned deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS JOB POSITION include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Carrier Payment Specific Duties:
- Reconcile all cash activity coming into the bank and entered into Gilsbar internal system in order to disburse premium cash to the insurance carriers, brokers, agents, vendors and Gilsbar.
- Responsible for group and agent set-up, 5500 reporting, and auditing commission structure in internal Gilsbar system.
- Prepares Carrier Payments at month end including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, resolving issues and auditing.
- Review and work change notices, respond to agent email requests and internal requests.
- Prepare commission reports, write queries, reconcile and post commission checks and work with administration to resolve billing issues.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS

Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in Windows and Microsoft Office environment, including Word and Outlook and Excel. Knowledge of insurance database system a plus.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Degree in Accounting or Business or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Accounting Clerk I: minimum one (1) year related experience and/or training.
- Accounting Clerk II: minimum two (2) years related experience and/or training.
- Accounting Clerk III: minimum five (5) years related experience and/or training.
With each job title, essential duties will stay the same, but more complex responsibilities will be assigned and a higher level of understanding of the job will be expected. There is no automatic transition to the next level. Promotion to the next level is at the Supervisor’s discretion and upon the Clerk’s willingness to take on more complex responsibilities.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE
No certification or license required in this position.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents and instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organizations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
