Accounting Coordinator
100% Remote within California, Must reside in California
Limited term role through 1/31/2024, possibility for extension
The Foundation for California Community Colleges is on a mission to double its impact in the next 10 years. We are seeking an Accounting Coordinator to join the Foundation in its mission of benefitting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation.
What You’ll Do
The Accounting Coordinator supports and assists with the administration of day-today operations of the Finance Department. The Accounting Coordinator performs a wide variety of functions to support the activities of the department including filing, data entry, conducting research, bank reconciliations, and general accounting support as needed.
The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for routine financial transactions and performing month end close functions. This position manages tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, contract/grant reporting, financial reporting, accounts receivable, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
What You Bring
· Performs routine office support functions, such as maintaining office supplies, opening and scanning/distributing mail, filing, photocopying, and other general organizational and support functions.
· Assists accounts receivable with verification of cash receipts, data entry of cash receipt transactions, and entering accounts receivable invoices.
· Assists in the preparation of accounts receivable invoices for various programs.
· Assists accounts payable with the verification of invoices, matching of invoices to proof of delivery documents, and data entry of accounts payable transactions.
· Completes bank account reconciliations, stop pays, and issues checks as assigned on a weekly/monthly basis
· Assists with fraud claims directly with the bank.
· Ability to work with large excel data files
· Liaison between call center and finance when needed
· Makes copies for billing support.
· Assists with the annual audit process.
· Provides support to the Finance Department.
Attributes for Success
· High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, database-related software applications and other office equipment.
· Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
· Ability to work accurately with numerical detail.
· Strong written and verbal communications skills.
· Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Foundation employees at all levels, program and client staff, and consumers encountered in the course of work.
· Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints and respond appropriately.
· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
· Ability to interrupt ongoing work to respond to customer and vendor inquiries.
· Ability to work remotely and navigate various technology platforms (Zoom, MS Office Suite-Teams, Outlook, Salesforce Lightning and other database programs, Google Suite, etc.).
· Passionate about providing students with stronger pathways to education and building a more just and equitable California overall.
· A self-starter and quick learner who is highly motivated and outcome-oriented, always seeking innovative approaches to project execution.
· A strategic and creative thinker who can problem-solve, working within and across teams to swiftly respond to needs identified across the California Community Colleges.
· Practices ownership, takes accountability, and has the ability to project manage, prioritize tasks, and deliver quality products on time with limited supervision.
· Ability to work on a fast-paced team and build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
