Responsibilities

This position serves as the VoIP deployment specialist, under the direction of the Network Specialist, providing troubleshooting and problem resolution as subject matter expert. Will also provide general IT support to include installing, problem solving, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining network communications infrastructure to include but not be limited to: voice, video, data, access, security and IP devices throughout the University network.

Port programming and installation primarily to include SIP VoIP instruments and secondarily other IP (Internet Protocol) based equipment such as: cameras, security devices, Ethernet switches, wireless access points, and other network equipment. Performs debugging functions that may include solutions to complex technical problems primarily involving deployment of SIP VoIP instruments. A state vehicle, golf cart, utility vehicle, or all-terrain vehicle will be used to reach site premises. A valid driver’s license will be required in order to operate vehicles.

Reviews, interprets, and prepares worksheets, estimates, services orders, and network diagrams describing nature of voice, video, security and data communications systems to be installed and/or repaired. Provides detail records of all work activity.

Performs network system management through the use of wireless management platform, virtual local area network (VLAN) management tools and other similar systems.

Designs, coordinates, installs, rearranges, repairs/splices network cabling for all communications networking to include but not limited to fiber optic cable, Cable Television (CATV) and other coaxial cable, building infrastructure Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP), Shielded Twisted Pair (STP), and Local Area Network (LAN) cabling. Coordinates with network management concerning cable plant and building wiring installations, repairs, changes, and design.

May serve as an on-site work coordinator in the absence of or at the request of the Supervisor and may recommend internal policies and procedures. Also, may serve as liaison with other University subject matter experts.

Performs other duties as required and moves heavy objects of 25 pounds or more. A State vehicle, golf cart, or utility vehicle will be used to reach site premises. A valid driver’s license will be needed in order to operate vehicle.

Performs duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and processes pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management. Appropriately utilizes associated tools in accordance with ITS standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma/equivalent and four years of experience (Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.)

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to convey technical information to technical and non- technical users.

Ability to demonstrate critical thinking based upon in-depth data, substantiating information, considering, and respecting others’ input personal values, and ethics.

Ability to document existing and new processes.

Ability to meet physical requirements as determined by position, such as lift and move objects weighing more than 25 pounds.

Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.

Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures within the telecommunications, network, and data fields.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of project planning, development, and evaluation.

Ability to provide general IT support to include installing, problem solving, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining network communications infrastructure.

Familiar with port programming and installation of IP (Internet Protocol) based equipment such as: SIP VoIP instruments, cameras, security devices, Ethernet switches, wireless access points, and other network equipment.

Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials.

A valid Florida/Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.
