Job Description:

This position will be Five days in office at the New Albany center!

In close coordination with Attorneys and Legal Assistants on Discover’s In-House Attorney Collections team, the Legal Clerk will support Discover’s efforts to collect receivables throughout Ohio, Arizona, Indiana, and other states as the department expands.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with the In-House Attorney Collection attorneys to effectively execute litigation strategy, including but not limited to printing, copying, and mailing documents to support all phases of the litigation process, filings and correspondence, and monitoring court dockets for deadlines, hearing, and trial dates and decisions across multiple states.

• Update and maintain case-specific information in matter management system and on individual attorneys’ calendars, including deadlines, hearing, and trial dates.

• Update and maintain case files in Discover systems, including scanning and uploading mail, affidavits, pleadings, correspondence, and other relevant documentation.

• Prepare letters, check requests, electronic filings and other mailings as needed to support collection efforts.

• Review and route mail from courts, opposing counsel, and consumers.

• Review and monitor check processing and check refund procedures.

• Upload time-stamped copies of documents from the court into matter management system.

• Prepare court check and bank search fee requests.

• E-file documents with the court; and other tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

• Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies, or related field

• 1+ years of experience in Law firm, In-House Law department, or related field

• In lieu of a degree, 2+ years of experience in Law firm, In-House Law department, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we’d also look for:

• 1+ years of experience in financial services, or related field

• In lieu of a degree, 2+ years of experience in financial services, or related field

• Paralegal

• Notary designation

• Experience in an in-house legal department, law firm, or related field

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $24.76 to $34.76. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
