ABOUT CPC’S EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAM:
CPC’s Early Childhood Education programs provide high-quality, comprehensive school readiness services to families with children from birth to 5 years old. Our early childhood education services strive to meet preschoolers’ needs for intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth. This work prepares York County’s young children to enter kindergarten prepared to learn.
SUMMARY:
To support the Education program of Early Head, Start/Head Start of York County by direct supervision and management of Early Head Start and Head Start classrooms and classroom staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor assigned classroom staff based on their job performance requirements, collaborate on individual goal planning with each staff and/or teaching team, seek out opportunities to mentor and coach classroom staff as needed, provide ongoing feedback on performance and towards individualized goals on each of the following:
- Review weekly lesson plans.
- Conduct regular classroom visits to observe and assess the following: Daily activities match weekly lesson plans; planned activities and daily schedule support consistency for children and implementation of the curriculum with fidelity; appropriate adult/child interactions and classroom management that are responsive to young children’s needs; the classroom environment including the accessible materials, visuals, arrangement of furniture, visible health and safety awareness, etc.; age appropriate, planned transitions; professional and respectful adult to adult interactions between classroom staff; volunteers, families, other agency support staff with adults actively engaged with the children where appropriate; and classroom record keeping to maintain compliance with applicable state and federal requirements;
- Review assigned weekly, end-month, and as needed paperwork for completeness and accuracy including staff time and attendance; children’s attendance; CACFP meal counts; child’s developmental screenings, supply, field trip, or training requests; etc.
- Evaluate assigned classroom staff two to three times a year using a formal classroom observation tool with additional evaluations if needed.
- Monitor classroom education staffs’ use of child outcomes measurement tools quarterly including complete, accurate assessment data for all children and parent report documents.
- Assist in designing and implementing an annual training plan for education personnel that is integrated with all service areas and is reflective of both annual EHS/HS and DHS required trainings as well as needs identified from classroom observations/home visits, child outcomes data, the EHS/HS program plan, or other sources for all staff. Coordinate and/or provide training and technical assistance to staff, parents, and volunteers as needed.
- Remain current in the field of early childhood education, the Head Start Performance Standards, and other national, state, and local initiatives pertaining to school readiness and early learning. Seek out and participate in opportunities for professional growth. Act as a field site supervisor for education staff pursuing educational advancement. Cross-train across other EHS/HS departments as necessary to support multiple processes within the program. May be required to attend program functions outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
- Act as a liaison between assigned classroom staff, the Education Manager and other EHS and HS leadership, outside agency support staff, building facility staff at classroom sites, etc. Participate in staffing and/or interagency meetings as necessary as part of a comprehensive team to discuss and action plan for children with identified and/or formally diagnosed with special education, behavioral, and or mental health concerns and services.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervise nine to twelve classroom education staff. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Supervisors must demonstrate competent supervision of staff through:
(a) effective communication with employees, both orally and in writing.
(b) effective interaction with employees, whether individually or in groups.
(c) prompt problem recognition and prompt, constructive, and effective problem-solving.
(d) thorough and fair evaluation of the employee’s job performance with appropriate follow through, whether reward for exceptional performance, or remediation/discipline for substandard performance.
(e) development of positive relationships with employees from diverse backgrounds.
(f) consistent role-modeling of desirable employee attitudes, traits, and skills, and consistent role-modeling of CPC’s Core Values.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Human Services, or a related field plus three years related work experience. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Department of Human Services FBI Clearance, National Sex Offender Registry, and PA Child Abuse Certification required prior to hire; PA State Criminal History due within 30 days of hire date; a physical assessment including a tuberculosis skin test and “Mandated Reporter” training due within 90-days of hire. Some position may require a valid DL with acceptable driving history.
