IT Help Desk Technician

The College of Mount Saint Vincent is an academically excellent, authentically inclusive, Catholic and ecumenical liberal arts college with approximately 1,500 undergraduate students and 300 graduate students, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York City. Our beautiful 70-acre campus of rolling lawns and wooded hills overlooking the Hudson River is just 12 miles from midtown Manhattan.

Position Description:

The IT Help Desk Technician provides technological support at the College of Mount Saint Vincent’s Computer Services Helpdesk. He or She will work closely with users to resolve software, hardware, basic networking, and telephone problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Provide courteous and responsive customer service to the entire College Community on the phone, in person or via e-mail

· Install, Maintain, Configure, Update, Troubleshoot and resolve problems with PCs and peripherals (both hardware and software)

· Provide assistance to system users with Helpdesk related questions

· Troubleshoot software and hardware failures and identify network problems when related to PCs

· Provide support to users with telephone/voicemail problems

· Set up and troubleshoot audio/visual presentations

· Assist in maintaining computer labs (hardware and software)

· Assist in computer rollouts

· Aid in training employees and students on using college’s technology

· Screen, refer, and diagnose internal inquiries and work requests as they relate to the helpdesk and its function

· Helpdesk activities include recognition, research, isolation, resolution, documentation and follow-up steps

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are only a sample representation of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Skills:

· Recent experience supporting and troubleshooting Windows and Apple machines and operation systems

· Knowledge of system principles, theories, concepts and technologies

· Knowledge of basic networking (IP, DHCP, DNS)

· Excellent customer service skills

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

· Must have ability to lift 50 lbs.

Desired Skills:

· Practical knowledge of data networks, peripherals and infrastructure cabling

· Knowledge of disk imaging software

· Knowledge of Avaya Phone System

Desired Educational Background:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Technical field such as Computer Science

· A+ or equivalent Certification

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk or electrical shock or radiation. The noise level in the work environment varies, but is often quiet. This job may require users to work various shifts.

Pay: $60,000.00 per year
