Job Description
Are you:
- A QuickBooks superstar?
- Experienced in managing monthly bookkeeping for small businesses?
- Interested in joining a growing, dynamic startup?
If so, this opportunity is for you!
Join our growing team as a Staff Accountant / Full-Charge Bookkeeper. This role is 100% remote.
Note: A cover letter and skills assessments are required. For your application to be considered, you MUST submit a cover letter and complete the requested skills assessments.
Who we are:
BooksTime is an ambitious, innovative accounting & bookkeeping startup with operations in 4 countries. BooksTime was founded in 2016 and we’ve been growing fast. For more information, check out our website: bookstime.com.
Please note that we don’t provide tax or assurance services.
What you’ll do:
As Staff Accountant / Full-Charge Bookkeeper, you’ll:
- Set-up and clean-up projects for new clients: When a new client signs up, their books often need to be cleaned up for previous time periods. Sometimes, they don’t have books yet and we need to design a CoA, set them up in QuickBooks Online for the first time, and input initial data.
- Handle monthly bookkeeping: This includes recording & categorizing transactions, reconciliations, month-end closing, report preparation, etc., as well as some routine communication with clients.
We mainly use QBO, but have a few clients on QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, NetSuite, and a few other apps.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Experienced. We need an accountant who has handled similar work for small businesses and/or non-profits. You might be a fit if you’ve held titles such as: Director of Accounting, Finance Manager, Controller, Full Charge Bookkeeper, Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, etc.
- Knowledgeable. You must have an excellent understanding of accounting concepts. The ideal candidate has a degree in accounting. ProAdvisor certification is preferred. CPA or CMA licenses would be a plus, but absolutely not necessary.
- Highly organized. You need to juggle multiple clients with different services, different needs and processes, and sometimes different software. This requires exceptional organizational, time management, and project management skills.
- Detail-oriented. Clients judge us by our accuracy and precision. The ideal candidate hates making mistakes and is extremely detail-oriented.
- A great communicator. As the face of BooksTime to the client, you should have excellent professional communication skills. You will need to be perfectly fluent in English (both written and spoken).
- Tech-savvy. You will need to be adept with computers and good at figuring out new systems and tools. Strong skills are required in Excel, as well as QuickBooks Online and/or Desktop. This is a MUST. Experience with other accounting software is not required but would be a plus (e.g. Xero, Freshbooks, NetSuite, Intacct, other Sage products, etc.).
- An adaptable, fast learner. Every client is unique in their use of software platforms, processes, requirements, etc., so each new client is a learning experience. We need someone who feels very comfortable diving in and figuring things out independently (though there will always be people who can help!). If you are happiest maintaining a well-established process that someone else designed, this is NOT the ideal role for you. If you love looking for creative solutions to new problems all the time, you could be a perfect fit!
Why join BooksTime:
- Make history. Our startup is still fairly small, but we have big plans to disrupt the accounting and bookkeeping industry. This is a great opportunity to get in early at a startup that, we believe, is on its way to becoming an industry leader.
- Do work that matters. The projects you will be working on will be critical to the success of the company and our clients.
- Flexible hours. We work at all hours, so we can design a schedule that works for you. Both part-time and full-time roles are available. While the schedule is very flexible, the hours of approx. 9am-11am EST will need to be part of your work schedule, so that you can overlap with certain colleagues.
- Grow with the company. As our company continues to grow, there will be many opportunities to take on new responsibilities and grow professionally. At BooksTime, our core focus is on growth: for our employees, for our clients, and for the remote accounting industry as a whole!
- Work that stays fresh. You will have a diverse portfolio of approx. 5-10 clients (depending on their size) in a broad range of industries, using a variety of different software and all with different goals and personality types. There will always be ample opportunities to learn new things. Plus, given the pace of change at our growing startup, we can pretty much guarantee that you will never be bored.
- Constant Improvement. This is a core value at BooksTime. We are always pushing to do better, from thinking of new ways to “wow” our clients to discovering opportunities to make internal processes more efficient. We can’t wait to hear your ideas about how we can do better. If you’re looking for a role that gives you ample opportunity to make a big impact — you’ve found it!
