Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT) is a private, non-profit technical college located in Boston’s South End. Founded in 1908, the college is proud of its long tradition of educating students for skilled, high-demand technical careers in a variety of industries, including automotive, advanced manufacturing, computer technology, health care, and construction trades through a mixture of 1-year, 2-year, and 4-year programs. Position Summary:
This position at BFIT involves both teaching online and in person on a part-time basis using Canvas Learning Management System, and other appropriate means in the Department of Automotive Technology.
Courses Description:
Automotive Engines (both lecture and lab)– covering all aspects of automotive internal combustion engines including design, nomenclature, operational theory, mechanisms, bearings, lubrication and engine overhaul procedure for the servicing of engines.
Electricity and Electronics (lecture)– covering the fundamentals of electricity and magnetism including current, voltage, resistance, Ohm’s law, series and parallel circuits, electric power, electromagnetic circuits, electrical measurement and electronic devices and circuits.
Automotive Safety and Technology (lecture and lab) – covering present and future automotive safety/technology, equipment/tool identification and safety procedures when repairing vehicles, batteries, high voltage batteries, hybrid vehicles and fuel cells. Lab focuses on safety, service and maintenance of vehicles including ICE, electric and bio-fuel vehicles.
Course Schedule: 14 weeks per semester, part-time hours, hybrid schedule
Course Compensation: $9,800/semester
Qualifications:
- Three or more years work experience in Automotive Diagnosis and Repair for ICE and alternative fuel vehicles;
- One or more years instructional experience;
- The ability to communicate effectively and connect with adult learners;
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Automotive Service Certification
Preferred Qualifications include:
- An bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized college or university with related major; and
- Two or more years teaching experience at the college or senior secondary levels
Type of Appointment:
This is a part-time faculty appointment, beginning next semester with the opportunity for renewal for future semesters.
