POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and setting standard costs of manufactured goods, collecting, and analyzing data about a company’s operation costs, fixed assets and account reconciliations. In addition, this position manages accounting activities surrounding inventory transactions and reporting.
The Senior Accountant will report to the Controller. Duties will include extensive coordination with operations, management, information systems support and corporate accounting.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the corporate structure and the general ledger structure.
- Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial journal entries and the monthly financial reporting.
- Prepare actual vs Budget analysis
- Compile and analyze financial information in order to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions.
- Manage the input and handling of the daily financial data and reports including:
- Inventories
- Payroll expenses
- Department expenses
- Fixed Assets and Capital Projects
- Capital Leases
- Financial statements
- Prepare and review the monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
- Manage Physical Inventory Counts and reconciliations
- Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate plant physical inventory and reconciliation
- Prepare accounting entries, spreadsheets and financial reports for audit, tax reporting and other internal and external reporting needs.
- Perform month-end cost accounting close
- Maintain cost accounting system and cost ledger
- Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and better use of resources including the impact on other departments.
- Perform cost accounting activities, including analyzing job costs and reporting scrap
- Automate monthly reporting to drive efficiency in posting to the general ledger.
- Assist the Controller with preparation of financial reporting and ad hoc analysis.
- Leadership role in identifying cost savings and capital expenditures cost analysis.
- Assist department supervisors and managers outside of the accounting and finance department with inquiries and report requests.
QUALIFICATIONS – REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in finance and accounting
- Strong ERP skills required
- Strong technical accounting skills
- Standard costing
- Experience in manufacturing
- Results-oriented with strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership, supervision, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to improve and implement change initiatives
- Ability to cope with pressure and timelines.
QUALIFICATIONS – PREFERRED:
- Prior experience supervising accounting staff.
- Experience using either Epicor, SAP, Oracle, Sage, OneStream
CPA, CMA, or MBA.
