Supply Chain Optimization (SCO) is a global team of approximately 125 people within SML driving business performance in the area of service market logistics. We design the service market supply chain in terms of material planning and footprint. We enable customer success through an optimized supply chain from suppliers to customers – balancing service levels, tied-up capital and transport cost and performance. Mission/Purpose of the Position
The Initial Inventory Analyst position is part of the Demand and Inventory Planning (DIP)/Operational Planning (OP) team within the SCO organization. The DIP/OP team works to ensure high-quality forecasting of future spare parts demand for Volvo Trucks, Mack Trucks, VCE and Penta in North America.
The Initial Inventory Analyst is a new role which is being introduced within SCO. Therefore, the individual who is selected for this position will play a vital part in formulating future processes and applications for the role. We are looking for an individual with a strong technical and analytical background who has a strong passion for automotive knowledge.
You will be responsible to provide an input of parts and quantity to be stocked at the start of production according to product development (DVP) deliverables and the introduction block timeline. Accurate initial stock will ensure the availability of new parts and drive uptime on customer-purchased new trucks/machines and engines. The Initial Inventory Analyst will determine a phase-in forecast for applicable parts to ramp-up the part according to the predicted demand.
Scope & Influence
You will report to the Head of Demand & Inventory Planning/Operational Planning NA and be based in Greensboro, NC.
Essential Functions:
- Manage and set the initial stock to be available in the supply chain at start of production or introduction of the intro-block.
- Predict and share start of usage (first demand) .
- Continuously follow-up performance on initial stocking by forecast quality and driving improvement based upon learnings.
- Calculate and provide Group Trucks Purchasing (GTP)/Purchasing a sourcing volume forecast for applicable parts.
- Drive collaboration with Group Truck Technology (GTT) and the Business Area(s) to improve data quality and forecast models.
- Measure initial stocking performance FISH and NOIS and Forecast Quality (FCQ) to identify improvement activities.
- Handover the initial stock list to the Parts Implementation Leader and the sourcing volume forecast to GTP/Purchasing.
- Update the applicable forecast system with the phase-in forecast to trigger distribution requirements planning (DRP), deployment and delivery schedules to be executed by the Operational Planning organization.
- Work on continuous improvement through the Volvo Production System.
- Act according to the Volvo values.
- Other duties as assigned by Management.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Mathematics/Statistics, Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent experience, is preferred
- Strong knowledge and experience in data analytics and logistics
- Demonstrated expertise in forecasting. Experienced utilization of statistical models using time series and machine learning algorithms.
- Demonstrated expertise in innovative ways of working and agile project management to drive activities, utilizing Agile, Scrum and DevOps concepts
- Demonstrated expertise in service and inventory parameter optimization. Knowledge of demand distribution, utilizing expected forecast error to calculate a safety stock to reach the Target Service Level.
- Experience in developing and using total cost modelling to optimize service and inventory parameters, driving business value and focusing on the customer
- Automotive industry experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team environment striving towards operational excellence guided by Volvo’s Values and the Code of Conduct
Necessary Technical/Functional/Language Skills:
- As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required
- Strong problem solving, research and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively within a multi-cultural and international environment to all levels of the organization
- Excellence in collaboration and communicating with partner and stakeholders within the service market eco-system
- Self-driven and willing to take ownership and drive actions cross-functionally
- Active learning and understanding of available learning strategies to develop required competencies for the Initial Inventory Analyst role
- Comfortable learning new technologies
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office applications)
- Skilled in analyzing and developing a solution by using data modelling/simulations using applicable code languages and algorithms (Python, R, Java, Apache Spark, etc…). Experience with various development, maintenance and scaling-out phases.
- Proficient working with data of scale and key capabilities in extracting data from available data sets. Efficient structured query language (SQL) execution.
- Cloud-based experience with pipelines, data bricks, etc… preferred
