The Oncology/Gynecologic-Oncology/Medicine unit at UCH is a 36-bed unit providing multidisciplinary care to a variety of patients including medical oncology, surgical oncology, medicine, end-of-life, and palliative care. The division of Oncology has seen a huge increase in the volume of clinical trials and our unit partners with this department to administer and monitor clinical trial protocols. This unit partners extensively with our accredited Palliative Care team to provide symptom management or comfort care to our patients. All of our nurses are ELNEC certified (End-Of-Life Nursing Education Consortium), as well as ONS chemotherapy/biotherapy certified. Our standard nurse to patient ratios are 1:4 Day Shift and 1:5 Night Shift. Depending on patient acuity, we have the flexibility to staff 1:1 -1:3 if needed, especially for our clinical trials and chemotherapy desensitization administrations. We take great pride in our unit’s motto: “Nursing is a Team Sport.” This is a fast paced, high acuity unit – taking incredible care of our patients and one another.
